Art Works for Business Friars Court Art Installation
Buckinghamshire Economic and Learning Partnership (BELP) is the
latest high-profile organisation to take part in the Art Works for
Business (AWB) initiative following the installation of works by a
local artist in Friars Court, Aylesbury.
As a key sponsor of the Creative Bucks Partnership, BELP is committed to supporting the AWB initiative, and with a recent relocation to new offices in Aylesbury, the organisation was presented with a tremendous opportunity from which to support local artists. Utilising AWB’s network of contacts, BELP has teamed up with the Obsidian Arts Gallery, based in Stoke Mandeville, to help select a talented local artist. The Obsidian is a fine arts gallery stocking a broad range of contemporary work from artists within Britain and has supported the AWB concept since its inception in 2006. With the support and guidance of Gallery Manager Trisha Woodcock, and following a very competitive selection process, a local artists was chosen; Sally Timms.
Sally, from Great Missenden, is a contemporary artist who works
primarily in oil and acrylic mediums, on both canvas and
board. Having received formal art training, Sally
subsequently worked within a number of creative and design
disciplines before turning to freelance work and the simple
abstract style she utilises today. Sally’s work is influenced
by the vast array of imagery that is often reflected in large glass
buildings and she has made increasing use of bigger canvasses in
order to work more freely. The quality of Sally’s work is
highlighted through her paintings being accepted for public and
private collections throughout the UK.
Sally was chosen for the Friars Court installation due to the
contemporary and varied nature of her work as well as the clear
reflection of her skills as a graphic designer. It was felt
that her work was inspirational and would appeal to a
business-focused audience.
A total of 11 pieces are now being exhibited on what will be a 3
month trial basis. The locations for each piece have been
carefully selected and focus on Friars Court’s meeting rooms and
communal areas – all spaces that see the maximum footfalls and are
frequented by the building’s numerous visitors. Sally’s
pieces are for sale and the work is supported by a plethora of
supporting information and promotional material for the artist,
Obsidian Gallery and AWB itself. It is hoped that the
exhibition will benefit both Sally and Obsidian through direct
sales, and also via further enquiries into commissions and other
work that the gallery may feature. If successful, the trial
period will be extended and opportunities to exhibit new material
and artists will be explored.
Sally Timms expressed her pleasure at the installation, “I’m
delighted to have the opportunity to feature my work at BELP’s
offices in Aylesbury. The location is excellent and it’s
great that AWB has allowed me to present my art to an entirely new
audience.”
Trisha Woodcock added, “The Obsidian Gallery has supported the
AWB initiative for some time now and I welcome the chance to
maximise the exposure of talented local artists and the gallery
itself. This is a great chance for Sally to expand her
horizons and work closely with a major business
location.”
Laura Boswell, AWB Co-ordinator summarised, “The partnership
between BELP and Sally is really exciting and is great news for the
AWB initiative. I’m sure the combination of Sally’s work,
Trisha’s experience and the central Aylesbury location will prove
to be a successful mix for this
collaboration.”
